American Legion Post 88 asks county to maintain $1,200 annual support for scout sponsorship

Lynn Stewart, commander of American Legion Post 88, and Lori Lowell, adjutant, asked the Bannock County Board of Commissioners to maintain the Legion’s current annual county allocation of $1,200 to support scout sponsorship and community programs.
Stewart said the post helps sponsor Boy Scout Troop 88 and recently served eight scouts, with organizers hoping to expand membership and add a girls’ troop. “We really appreciate all the money that you guys have given us over the years and this year. We're not asking for any kind of an increase, but we would like to maintain what you have been giving us, which is $1,200 a year,” Stewart said.
The presenters said the post also runs fundraising events—pancake breakfasts and other efforts—and relies on the Lava Senior Center as a venue and sponsor for some activities. Commissioners asked about troop membership and challenges recruiting volunteers; the Legion representatives confirmed volunteer recruitment is difficult and asked for continued county support. No formal vote was taken; the request will be considered as part of the county budget process.
