Comal County honors long‑running local recycler and retiring TxDOT area engineer

The Comal County Commissioner's Court on May 22 adopted proclamations honoring two local figures: Comal Iron and Metals received a Texas Treasure Business proclamation and Will Lockett, P.E., the Texas Department of Transportation New Braunfels area engineer, was recognized on the occasion of his retirement.

Comal Iron and Metals: The court read a proclamation noting that the Texas Treasure Business Award recognizes businesses in continuous operation for at least 50 years and that Comal Iron and Metals (founded in 1969 by Pascual and Rosa Rodriguez) has served the New Braunfels area since 1969. A family representative who accepted the proclamation described the business’s origins, the role of Johnny Rodriguez Jr. in carrying on the operation after his father's death, and the company’s local philanthropy, saying the business serves the community within about a 20‑mile radius.

Will Lockett, P.E.: The court read a proclamation recognizing Lockett for 10 years as TxDOT New Braunfels area engineer and noting his announced retirement effective May 23, 2025. Commissioners praised Lockett’s technical work and partnership with the county; Lockett thanked the court, reflected briefly on the partnership and reminded listeners about summer safety.

Both proclamations were approved by motion and second and adopted by voice vote.

Ending: The proclamations place on the public record the court’s formal thanks to a local business and to an interagency engineer who has worked with the county on transportation projects for the past decade.
