LDRC advances floodplain-management updates tied to NFIP/CRS requirements

The Marion County Land Development Regulation Commission voted unanimously to send proposed amendments to Article 5, Division 3 (floodplain management) forward for further processing. Ken Weir of Growth Services presented the package and said the changes were submitted to meet National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Community Rating System (CRS) criteria identified by a state-provided consultant.
“We did bring back the one—no, actually, it was a definition. We did it through the workshop, so everything's the same as the last workshop,” Weir said, summarizing that staff had carried forward the recommendations previously discussed in workshops. He said the state consultant provided the proposed changes needed to maintain or improve the county's CRS rating; staff noted the county’s CRS rating interactions during the workshop discussion.
No members of the public addressed the commission on this item. A commissioner moved to send the proposed floodplain-management regulations forward; another seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners said they had seen the draft changes in earlier workshops and did not request additional revisions at the meeting. Staff indicated the amendment language reflects the state consultant's proposals for CRS/NFIP compliance.
