The Herington City Commission authorized the city manager to make payment in full, not to exceed $207,300, for purchase of a new small bucket truck during Tuesday’s meeting.
Staff said the city budgeted $220,000 for the vehicle and that the most recent quote — reflecting the current model-year discount and a basic warranty package — puts the purchase price about $13,000 under budget. City staff recommended purchasing outright rather than financing, citing the interest cost that would accrue over financing options.
Public works staff told the commission that the city’s existing small bucket truck is from the 1980s and is no longer safe to use; the new truck will allow crews to work in tighter spaces without requiring a commercial driver’s license for some operators. Staff said the vehicle can be scheduled for delivery as soon as the next day.
A motion to authorize the city manager to execute full payment for the truck not to exceed $207,300 carried with recorded ayes from commissioners and the mayor.
