Beaver County: Human Services flooring approved by insurer; small courthouse generator pump may require expensive replacement

County Department Head Dan told commissioners he had notified contractors to proceed with flooring covered by the county’s insurance for the Human Services building and that materials should arrive in about one to two weeks, with installation expected to be brief. He added he hopes the building will reopen in roughly three weeks.
The department head also reported that bids for work on the county parking garage recently closed. Commissioners were told the low bidder was the same firm that handled emergency repairs and is familiar with the site. No formal award was recorded at the work session.
County staff said a load test on the courthouse’s primary large generator produced no faults. Separately, staff reported the small generator that serves the courthouse’s rear area experienced a water-pump failure and that replacement parts are difficult to source because the pump is old. Staff said they are pursuing two contractors who might rebuild the pump; if a rebuild is not possible, the unit may need replacement. A speaker at the meeting estimated the replacement could be "upwards of hundred thousand dollars." The county has not provided a firm price or procurement schedule.
There was no formal motion or vote during the work session on any of these items. Commissioners and staff framed the generator problem as a facilities-maintenance issue requiring further vendor outreach and budget consideration.
Looking ahead, the county will return to the regular agenda process to present bid recommendations for the parking garage and to request procurement authority for any generator replacement if necessary. For now, staff described the flooring and parking work as proceeding under existing approvals and the generator issue as under investigation.
