Fresno County supervisors on May 20 approved Amendment 1 to Agreement No. 21‑227 with the Auberry Volunteer Fire Department, increasing the contract maximum by $50,000 to a new total not to exceed $446,000.
Purpose and funding source: County public works staff said the amendment is intended to help the volunteer department keep pace with vehicle and equipment costs for the coming fiscal year while staff pursue a Proposition 218 process next year to adjust CSA (County Service Area) rates. The item included a corresponding budget resolution for County Service Area 50.
Operational context: Supervisors and county staff said the increase is a short‑term measure intended to keep the volunteer station operational during the upcoming fire season; staff said CSA reserves are being used as a stopgap. Board members also noted a longer-term discussion may be needed about the relationship between the county fire protection district and volunteer stations in foothill and mountain communities.
Board action: The board voted to approve the amendment and authorized the chairman to execute the updated agreement. The matter passed with all present supervisors voting yes.
