Steve Christen, who identified himself as a Lumos representative, described fiber as “particles of light” with a long expected lifespan and said Lumos is self‑funded and not seeking city or federal grants. “When I put fiber into the ground…typically it's a 20 to 30 year lifespan,” Christen said, and added that upgrades are made by changing electronics on each end rather than re‑digging fiber.
