The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Board approved a proposed distribution easement with We Energies to install a new underground electrical line within Merrillcrest Park.
Staff presented the easement layout and told the board the City Attorney had reviewed and approved the document. Melissa Lipska said the easement language was revised to narrow the area and to limit use to underground infrastructure only. Staff said any future aboveground work or activity outside the designated easement would require returning to the board for approval.
Staff indicated the easement is tied to distribution improvements and fiber network upgrades running through the neighborhood; the proposed route also traverses school-district property. Board members moved and seconded the recommendation and approved the easement.
The approval includes a practical restriction: the easement is limited to underground conduits and will not permit aboveground installations without future board approval.
