Summary
Ordinance (annexation) introduced and adopted to annex a 56.5-acre city-owned parcel in Arapahoe County for future MUR zoning and an Aurora Water detention facility; council vote was 8-0 with final reading set for June 9.
Aurora City Council moved to annex a 56.5-acre city-owned parcel in Arapahoe County on May 19 to establish city jurisdiction over the land ahead of a separate zoning process. Justin Andrews, project manager with Development Services, presented the annexation; the council approved the motion (introduction) and set a final reading for June 9.
Andrews said the parcel lies south of East Colfax Avenue and just east of East 14th Avenue and that the annexation follows Colorado state law and city requirements. City staff said the area is planned for an Aurora Water detention facility and that initial zoning is anticipated to be MUR (mixed-use residential) as a subsequent, separate step.
The council opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Mayor Pro Tem Sundberg moved the ordinance and Council Member Ray Eckhart seconded. The council voted 8-0 to pass the item at the introduction stage and noted that the final reading will occur at the June 9 meeting.
