Council renames court department to 'Court Services' to aid recruitment and compensation

Aurora City Council adopted Ordinance 2025-47 on May 19 to amend section 5.137 of the city code, changing the department name from "Case Management" to "Court Services." Candace Atkinson, court administrator and detention director, told council the change is aimed at improving compensation structure and recruitment.
Atkinson said the amendment is straightforward and required to align organizational naming with responsibilities for case management, court services and related functions. Council had no questions and voted to adopt the ordinance with eight yes votes.
Staff will proceed with the administrative updates required by the ordinance.
