Chester County proclaims EMS Week and Memorial Day, honors Great Falls student with $5,000 scholarship

Chester County Council on May 19 presented two proclamations and recognized a local scholarship recipient.
Chairman Pete Wilson read a proclamation designating May 18–24, 2025 as Emergency Medical Services Week in Chester County, praising EMS personnel for 24/7 out‑of‑hospital care and lifesaving services. An EMS representative identified as Mr. Jackson thanked Council and said the county’s EMS system staffs about 11 personnel per shift and has roughly 60 personnel overall. "This year's thing is we care for everyone," Mr. Jackson said, adding that crews serve people regardless of status and deliver high‑quality care.
Wilson and council also proclaimed Monday, May 26, 2025 as Memorial Day in honor of fallen U.S. Armed Forces members and invited residents to observe the holiday. Wilson personally thanked an EMS provider in the audience whose intervention he said had helped him return to family activities.
In a separate recognition, the council honored Great Falls High School senior Kinsley Price as the Chester County recipient of the South Carolina Association of Counties Board of Directors Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who plan to attend an in‑state two‑ or four‑year college. The council noted Price's leadership roles in volleyball, cross country and marksmanship, her service with the National Beta Club and volunteer work with local hunger‑relief organizations. Price will attend Anderson University in the fall to study early childhood education.
