A county official summarized the statutory process cited by staff: under the statute invoked by staff, a taxpayer who pays taxes under protest may have 60 days to apply for an abatement or request a hearing before the commission; the protested payment is held in the treasury while the matter is resolved. Commissioners said they wanted more documentation about the assessment increase before making a determination and asked the county assessor (Tasha) to appear at the next meeting to provide details.
The board set the item for the next meeting and did not take a final vote on the protest at the May 19 meeting.
