Board approves consent agenda unanimously; moves to executive session on bargaining

The South Portland School Board unanimously approved the consent agenda at its June 9 meeting. The motion to approve the consent agenda was moved by Mr. Dowling and seconded by Ms. Ratliff; the board chair called the vote and the clerk recorded the result as unanimous, including two student representatives.
The consent agenda included approval of minutes (regular meeting May 12; special meetings May 27 and June 3), donation acceptances and personnel items listed in the packet. Donations noted in the meeting record included a $1,350.87 3-D printer to South Portland Middle School (DonorsChoose), $1,293 from the PTAs of Brown, Dyer, Skilling, Small and Kaler to support enrichment, and $539 from DonorsChoose for a whiteboard table at Small School. The board also welcomed two new music educators and announced the nomination of Ellen Fierick as Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.
Later in the meeting the board moved to enter executive session "pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(A)" to discuss collective bargaining with the South Portland Education Support Association (SPESA), the professional association (PA), the South Portland Teachers Association (SPTA) and the South Portland Administrators Association. The motion to enter executive session was moved by Mr. Dowling, seconded by Ms. Ratliff, and approved unanimously by voting members present; the student representatives did not participate in that executive-session vote.
The board reconvened briefly to adjourn at 9:05 p.m.
