RSU 14 budget validation questions pass narrowly in June vote

The Wyndham Raymond School District board on June 11 accepted the certified computation and declaration of the regional school unit 14 budget referendum results, showing narrow margins in the validation question and strong support to retain the budget validation process.
Superintendent Chris Howell read the official totals from municipal clerks. On question 1, the budget validation referendum, votes were: Town of Raymond — 408 affirmative; Town of Windham — 651 affirmative; total affirmative 1,059. The negatives were Raymond 281 and Windham 676 for a total of 957. Howell declared the measure passed.
On question 2, the measure on whether to continue the budget validation process, votes were: Raymond affirmative 495 and Windham affirmative 962, for a total of 1,457. The negatives were Raymond 183 and Windham 347 for a total of 530. That question also passed.
Board members discussed turnout and the split results between the two towns, with several members urging better public education and outreach about how school and town budgets are voted. Director Jody Carroll and others said the district should seek clearer, earlier communication so residents understand which vote affects the school budget and how the budget impacts local tax rates.
The board approved entering the certified results into the RSU 14 records and directed that certified copies be sent to municipal clerks.
