Lee County supervisors adopt changes to Chapter 14 of county code to broaden enforceability of trash rules

The Lee County Board of Supervisors voted May 20 to adopt amendments to Chapter 14 of the Lee County Code that revise how the county defines and enforces certain waste and container rules.
According to the board packet and committee report presented at the meeting, the amendments remove language that excluded volumes under one cubic foot from the waste definition, remove a separate definition of “residential property” so the code applies to all property, and change language in one section from “container” to “inside fence property” regarding moving trash at convenience centers.
A county committee drafted the changes and the planning/advisory committee submitted the proposed language to the board. A motion to adopt a resolution incorporating the changes into the county ordinance was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members described the changes as small but significant for enforcement: clarifying that taking items from dumpsters and moving trash at convenience centers can be enforced under the revised language. The ordinance amendments are intended to make enforcement more effective across property types.
