Summer reading, movie night and Fourth of July week scheduled; library turnout high

A staff member reported the library's summer reading kickoff drew about 150 children on the previous night. Council members said that turnout was encouraging and that the library and other partners are drawing families to summer activities.
Debbie and other staff outlined the Fourth of July week: library events on Monday; a movie-in-the-park on Tuesday sponsored by Centriccom, which will also supply a trailer with Wi-Fi; a family night at the rodeo grounds on Wednesday; food trucks and an early concert in the park on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.; and the usual activities on the Fourth. The council discussed logistics, including water and ground preparation at the rodeo arena and volunteer coordination. One council member said the city is considering charging $5 for all-day access to bounce houses through a different vendor.
Staff said they had applied for an exception on secondary irrigation meters and that the state had provided funds for the program; however, staff also said in many cases it is not feasible to put meters in individual backyards and the city is exploring variances and alternative approaches.
