The hearing, called to order at 7:01 p.m., covered the town’s fiscal year 2025 accounting (July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025) and the proposed fiscal year 2026 budget (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026). Council members said the FY2025 accounts were balanced and that the FY2026 document in the council packets is labeled “tentative.” A copy of the packet was available at the meeting podium and council members pointed to the public utilities line items (page 51 of the packet) for water-related budget detail.

During the hearing a resident, Jacob Smith, raised a separate operational concern about the town’s water system, saying a valve on the high tank has intermittently failed and that he believed about “3,000 gallons a minute” were coming down the system when the valve malfunctioned. Council members told Smith the town’s engineer was expected to send a final packet on the water project; council member Alicia O'Driscoll said she would check her email for the engineer’s packet and that the engineer had said he would look into the problem. Council members agreed to place the matter on a future meeting agenda so it would be on the record.
Council members also noted that the hearing had been rescheduled from the previous Thursday after a clerical error in the meeting notice; they said corrected notice had been posted at the post office, town hall and in the local paper and that the record shows the meeting had been publicly posted in advance.
With no further public comment, Council member Terry Issel moved to close the Walsburg Town Council public hearing on the FY2026 proposed budget; Council member Ron Horton seconded. The council voted unanimously in favor and adjourned the hearing at about 7:09 p.m.
Next steps: the proposed FY2026 document is tentatively presented; council members indicated it will be updated following any formal adoption process (the date for adoption was not specified during the hearing).
