Votes and recusals The council approved the contract and the funding by a vote of 6–0 with Council member Cook recused from the vote. Council members said the program provides mediation and legal support intended to reduce evictions and help tenants and landlords navigate disputes.
Contract scope The award includes mediation, limited legal assistance and tenant/landlord education targeted to low- and moderate-income renters at risk of eviction for nonpayment. The manager was authorized to make nonsubstantive changes to the contract so long as the total contract amount remained unchanged.
Next steps Staff will execute the contract and manage performance reporting; the city will coordinate with Legal Aid on service delivery and metrics for reducing evictions.
