County Administrator Greg Desant reported on a broadband rollout at the June 16 meeting, saying Comcast will enable approximately 1,150 passings (structures with potential service) by the end of the month as part of a 3,800-passing project in Madison County.
Desant told the board the county should direct staff to work with Comcast to secure a formal agreement for phase two of the countywide broadband project before Comcast submits its next round of grant applications. He said such an agreement would clarify roles and responsibilities and help ensure the county's interests are reflected in future grant applications.
The board moved and approved a direction for the county administrator (or his designee) to work with Comcast on a phase-two contract. Staff said Comcast expects completion of the entire phase-one project no later than September, with the possibility of earlier completion.
Ending: Board authorized staff to negotiate a phase-two agreement with Comcast and pursue appropriate contract language ahead of further grant applications.
