Norwood Chamber outlines summer events, facade grant and vendor outreach

Becky said the chamber revived its annual banquet in March, drawing 39 people and a successful silent auction. She said the chamber will repeat the banquet next year and share invitations with panel members.
The chamber has launched a free Fourth-Friday film series at Norwood Town Park (not held in July to avoid conflicts with the county fair and rodeo). Becky said the first screening drew 39 attendees (18 children and 21 adults) and the next scheduled film is Sandlot on June 27, preceding the Star Spangled Saturday celebration on June 28.
On Star Spangled Saturday, Becky said the chamber is collaborating with the town and the fire district to organize a parade and vendor area; the town is not charging vendor fees and the fire department will receive free food. Chamber volunteers will help run the event and the group is recruiting nonprofit and club vendors.
Becky described the façade grant program ("facade grama" in discussion) as a matching program with a maximum award of $5,000. She said the program was expanded last year to allow use for some interior improvements such as HVAC, roofing and other building systems. Applicants must submit bids and match funds; members of the facade committee (town clerks and chamber representatives) score applications, and bonus points are awarded for chamber or Weed Seads membership.
The chamber reported collaboration with local groups including Music on The Mesa and support for Pioneer Day and other seasonal events. Becky said the chamber has six board members and is focusing on a limited set of projects to support local businesses, and that the chamber plans to coordinate small-business workshops with local partners.
No formal panel action was taken on these items during the update. Several panel members thanked Becky and asked follow-up questions about event dates and vendor participation.
