Person County opens solicitation for Golden Leaf community grants; up to $1.5M may be requested per county

County Manager outlined the opportunity: the Golden Leaf Foundation will award grants within the North Central Prosperity Zone (of which Person County is part), with roughly $11,000,000 available across the zone. Each county may endorse up to four projects totaling $2,000,000; a single county project may receive up to $1,500,000, though the county is not guaranteed the maximum.
Process and timeline presented to commissioners: - Publicize the opportunity and make Golden Leaf worksheets available to potential applicants. - Project worksheets due to Person County economic development director by July 21. - County staff will share project worksheets with Golden Leaf and receive feedback in early August; the Economic Development Commission will review projects at its August 26 meeting. - The Board of Commissioners will consider and approve the county’s final recommended project list on Sept. 2, and the county’s submission to Golden Leaf is due Sept. 8. - Full Golden Leaf applications (completed by the applicant entities) would be due by Nov. 20; Golden Leaf reviews applications over November–January and expects funding decisions in February 2026.
The board voted to authorize the county manager’s recommended process and to begin soliciting project proposals. County staff said the information package (slides and worksheets) would be shared with the Economic Development Commission immediately so the EDC can advise on proposed projects ahead of the July 21 worksheet deadline.
Ending: If the county forwards projects, applicants will prepare detailed Golden Leaf applications later in the year; final award decisions are expected in February 2026.
