City wins cemetery‑mapping grant; council and staff finalize plans for community celebration

City staff announced that a cemetery grant application was successful, securing $11,688 to digitize the cemetery and publish an online map. The city recorder (Alicia) said the project will make cemetery records and a map available digitally.

Separately, council and staff reviewed plans for an upcoming community celebration. Staff described the event schedule: a Friday night program with Quickball and a bingo night (free family events), and a Saturday program featuring a duct‑tape regatta (teams build boats on site starting at 1:00 p.m. and launch around 5:00 p.m.), talent performances, food service (DUP serving inside, a snack shack and a burger truck), and fireworks at the same location as the prior year. Staff said half the duct tape for the regatta had been donated and that event organizers expect on‑site boat building and transport to the pond for launch.

Staff also reported outreach on parade logistics including securing a grand marshal (council agreed to solicit public nominations and place a vote on the next meeting agenda to allow promotion by July 1), ensuring restrooms and concessions are available for scheduled baseball tournaments on June 20–21, and coordinating cleanup (a town sweeper attachment was noted as available). Staff and council discussed pickup and storage of raffle and prize donations, volunteer coordination and sweep/cleanup needs after fireworks.

Council asked staff to confirm tournament schedules and to finalize vendor and volunteer arrangements before the events. Staff said they will advertise the parade grand marshal nomination and that the festival schedule should be ready by July 1.
