County planning official updates commissioners on comprehensive plan work and Safe Streets study; open-house date tentatively July 10

Judy Clark, Lincoln County planning administrator, updated the board on progress toward the county comprehensive plan and related studies on June 9. Clark said the county's consultant from Marvin Planning (FHU) visited recently to review transportation elements and a Safe Streets for All study focused inside North Platte but with county-maintained roads within the 2-mile jurisdiction.
Clark said consultant Jesse Poor reviewed crash data and flagged locations for low-cost safety interventions such as enhanced pavement edge lines, better signage and crosswalk improvements. Clark told commissioners the consultant also recommended items for the transportation portion of the comprehensive plan; those recommendations will be integrated into the plan—s draft.
Clark said the county is targeting July 10 to hold open houses and town-hall style meetings on the comprehensive plan; the consultant plans to staff boards at stations covering each section of the plan for detailed public questions. Clark said she will confirm dates and asked to be present for the town-hall events.
Commissioners asked whether the State Department of Roads (NDOR) would take recommendations in the Safe Streets study seriously; Clark said NDOR district staff participated in meetings, and she expects the department to review the study as part of regular coordination. Clark said the consultant noted North Platte and the surrounding area are generally safe by crash statistics but identified a few higher-risk locations, including areas near State Farm Road and Highway 83 intersections.
Clark said the Safe Streets work emphasizes data-driven, low-cost improvements and alternative-transportation considerations (what the study calls "transportation routes"). She said large capital projects are possible but unlikely in the near term without additional funding; the county will provide both hard-copy and electronic copies of the final report to participating agencies.
