The Brookfield Town Planning Board spent substantial time on June 9 reviewing updates to the town master plan and mapping out next steps, including whether to run a new community survey to inform the revision.
Leah Gage, who led the master plan conversation, said board members had each been assigned sections and should submit suggested edits for consolidation. Gage outlined a proposed timeline: circulate changes in June, discuss them in July, hold public outreach later in the summer, and aim for a public hearing in September with a goal of finishing the document by the end of the year unless the board elects to incorporate a new survey.
Board members discussed a prior 2018 survey and the value of fresh input. One member said the 2018 effort drew roughly 130 responses; the board agreed a new survey could improve public engagement but noted a mailed survey would cost several hundred dollars and could push the schedule into the following year. Members discussed alternative outreach such as posting notice on the sandwich board and using a web form for responses.
The board also identified specific content issues to address in the draft: outdated maps, a missing numbered item in the natural-resources section, inconsistent references to a capital improvement program, and unclear language about local water-resource planning and which RSA assigns responsibility. Frank (last name not given) was identified as a staff contact who might help with natural-resources material and mapping.
Members agreed to collect edits, circulate a consolidated Word draft, and bring completed sections to the July meeting for internal discussion before public release. The board did not adopt final plan language at the June 9 meeting.
