Peoria Unified School District leaders kicked off phase 1 of an updated strategic planning framework during a June 11 governing board study session, asking board members to help refine priorities, draft outcomes and early performance measures ahead of a late‑summer adoption push.
In opening remarks, a district presenter said the framework is meant to “reflect where we’ve been, where we are and where we’re going” and described the work as a two‑phase process: an immediate round of board input and development this summer leading to implementation planning and broader community strategy work beginning in August and continuing into the 2025–26 school year.
Board members raised expectations for specific, measurable outcomes and regular reporting. Board member Melissa Ewing asked for clear timelines and “measures that matter” so the district can monitor progress and pivot where needed. Other board members urged the plan be made accessible to families and students, and to include accountability checkpoints so the board can monitor implementation.
District staff said the immediate deliverable is a set of draft priorities and key performance indicators (KPIs) that will be used to align instructional, operational and community outreach work. They indicated a target date for final adoption of a phase‑1 plan around early July, with a fuller implementation timeline scheduled to begin in August and continue into 2026.
The work follows prior district priorities around student success, safety and well‑being, stewardship of resources and community connections. Staff described the plan as an effort to “translate strategy into a promise,” and emphasized that final elements will be adjusted based on board feedback and community input.
District staff said the planning timeline will allow a summer cadence to produce usable implementation guidance for the 2025–26 school year.
For now, the district staff asked the board to prioritize clarity on a small set of measurable outcomes, a short list of KPIs, and a cadence for reporting so the governing board can monitor progress and support needed resource adjustments.
