Commission forms committee to review RFQs for health department renovation design

Reno County commissioners approved creating a review committee to evaluate eight firms that responded to a request for qualifications (RFQ) to design interior renovations of the county health department building.
County staff said the county put out the RFQ after plans to relocate EMS to Fifth Avenue would free space in the health department. Staff reported receiving qualifications from firms in Hutchinson, Wichita, Topeka and Kansas City; the submission packet totaled roughly 200 pages.
The county currently holds a capital reserve for the health department of “a little over a million dollars,” staff said; that amount is not expected to cover the entire renovation. The committee recommended by staff will evaluate RFQs, conduct interviews (estimated 30–60 minutes per firm) and return a recommendation to the commission in July or August.
County staff recommended a committee made up of one or two commissioners, Facilities Director Kyle Stewart, Health Department Director Carla Nichols and county administrative staff. Commissioners moved, with the proposed appointments discussed, and approved forming the committee.
