Commission awards Arlington EMS station construction contract to Ward Davis at just under $700,000

Reno County commissioners approved a construction contract with Ward Davis to build a new EMS Station in Arlington after county EMS staff said Ward Davis submitted the most competitive bid, coming in just under $700,000.
Dave Johnson, Reno County EMS (affiliated with Hutchinson Regional Medical Center), told the commission the county already purchased the site on Fair Street, contracted Landmark Architects for design work and had received the bids. Johnson said the winning bid exceeded a December commission cap by roughly $24,000 because of higher costs for building materials (notably metal), higher‑than‑expected survey and geotechnical fees, and demolition and site prep work.
Johnson said Ward Davis indicated it could begin work as early as July. Commissioners discussed reducing architectural fees from 7% to 5% and noted the project aims to deliver a durable, usable 2,600‑square‑foot station for Western Reno County.
