City recognizes three new small businesses: First Glimpse, Wax and Relax, Fur Mama’s

The Richmond City Board of Commissioners opened its meeting with recognition of three new local businesses and a brief presentation from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
Katie Startsman, the Kentucky SBDC business coach for Madison County, told commissioners the SBDC is housed at the University of Kentucky and funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration; she said most coaching and training the SBDC provides is free to clients and outlined services including business planning, loan packaging and specialty trainings. Startsman asked local officials to refer businesses that need assistance.
The board then welcomed three Richmond entrepreneurs: - First Glimpse, at 620 Big Hill Avenue (suite number given as #3 in the presentation). Owners Regina Rowland and Caitlin McQueen described the business as an elective prenatal ultrasound studio offering 2D, 3D, 4D and HD ultrasounds, early gender testing, and keepsakes such as heartbeat-recorded stuffed animals. - Wax and Relax, at 234 East Main Street, founded by Kim and Paige Robbins. The business offers full-body waxing, three facial services (including dermaplaning and microdermabrasion), massage therapy options and plans to add lymphatic services the following year. - Fur Mama’s Luxury Pet Grooming, at 2187 Lexington Road, Suite A10. Founders Mackenzie Henry and Amanda Johnson described a full-service grooming salon emphasizing personalized, high-quality products and stress-reduction for animals.
Why it matters: The recognitions highlight small-business growth in Richmond and an available no-cost resource (SBDC) intended to help entrepreneurs secure financing, training and technical assistance.
The commission thanked the new business owners and the SBDC representative for participating in the meeting.
