Shawnee council approves IRB moves, street contract and Justice Center expansion; receives top-grade audit

The City of Shawnee City Council on June 9 approved a series of development and public works actions and received a favorable comprehensive financial report from the city's auditor.

The council unanimously extended the federally taxable private activity revenue bonds (IRBs) for the Marigold Plaza project for one year and approved transferring existing IRBs for the 40 Third and Clare Industrial project to CT Realty pending sale of that property, also by unanimous vote. Council members unanimously approved an engineering services agreement with BG Consultants LLC for the next street improvement program project — listed as 50 First Street from Black Swan Drive to Clavier Road — positioning that project for work in 2026. The council approved final plans and authorized staff to bid the Shawnee Mission Parkway mill-and-overlay project on an 8-0 vote.
