Several residents commended the Schererville Police Department and park staff for their handling of incidents at the recent Schererville Fest but urged improvements to lighting, patrols and event layout.
Jeff Menard thanked DAV organizers and praised town departments but said some people told him they did not feel safe at the festival; he suggested evaluating the midway contract and possibly reducing large rides and exploring paid admission for out-of-town guests or resident wristbands to manage crowds.
Kevin Dean, who attended all three days, said the park district kept the site clean and the police department maintained calm. Dean said he personally felt threatened once while walking on a bike path late Saturday but that his concern eased when he observed police monitoring the area. He recommended more lighting around the festival perimeter and suggested adding bike racks if bicycles are not allowed inside the event.
Other commenters praised the police for responding to incidents and recommended continuing to evaluate crowd management, perimeter lighting and patrolling practices. The council did not take immediate policy action at the June 11 meeting; the remarks were recorded as public comment.
