Summary
The school committee amended contracts with Daypont to expand scope at Kickemuit Middle School and Rockwell using a Champlin grant and PTO funds; work aims to be substantially complete before the school year begins.
The Bristol Warren Regional School Committee approved contract amendments to proceed with outdoor-learning construction at Kickemuit Middle School (KMS) and Rockwell Elementary, expanding a previously awarded contract with Daypont.
Carrie (staff member) told the committee the district had sought bids last year and received one bidder, Daypont. Working with Daypont, the district adjusted Rockwell’s scope after consulting with the Rockwell principal and PTO. The committee discussed adding pavilion footings at KMS so the school can complete a pavilion to support a CTE program funded by the Chaplain Grant. Rockwell’s revised landscape plan was developed with Thrive Outside and funded in part by the PTO.
Committee Member Almeida praised the written memo that summarized prior approvals and scope changes. Members asked about schedule and completion; staff said Daypont was ready to start the pavilion footings at KMS immediately and that Rockwell work could begin as soon as weather permits, with a goal of substantial completion by Aug. 30 unless unforeseen issues arise.
Superintendent Riley clarified that the expanded scope does not increase district costs: the Champlin grant covers the KMS additions and the PTO is funding Rockwell’s added elements. The committee voted to approve the contract amendments so work can proceed.
The committee asked staff to communicate project timetables to the affected schools and principals; staff said they would share schedules and updates with PTOs and principals as work begins.
