New commissioner sworn in; Camden County issues proclamations for Parkinson's and Autism Awareness months

Commissioner Jennifer Cooley Fleischer took the oath of office during the meeting. Director Cappelli (presiding) administered the oath for the county commissioner seat.
The board presented a proclamation for Parkinson's Awareness Month and commended the Katz JCC Parkinson's Connection program for providing exercise classes, education and support groups. Megan Mattis, identified as the manager of the Parkinson's Connection program at the Katz JCC, thanked the board and said the program has worked with people with Parkinson's since 2017. "We don't have a cure for Parkinson's yet, but we do know that exercise and fostering social connection can truly make an impact on the lives of individuals with PD," Mattis said.
The board also recognized autism awareness and commended Luke's Place, a South Jersey nonprofit founded by William and Gloria Jensen in 2018 that provides social and recreational programs and volunteer opportunities for adults with special needs. Commissioners cited the organization as an example of local support for adults who age out of school-based services.
The proclamations were ceremonial and presented as tokens of appreciation to local nonprofit programs; no formal votes were required for the proclamations.
Ending Commissioner Cooley Fleischer thanked the board and residents for their support and said she looks forward to working on county priorities. Representatives of the Katz JCC and Luke's Place expressed appreciation for the county's recognition and continued partnership.
