Board weighs options for high‑school dedication plaque, debates which past and current officials to include
Summary
Superintendent and facilities staff presented three options for a dedication plaque for the new high school — recognize the board that initiated the project (March 2022), the board at the groundbreaking (Feb. 2024), or the board at official opening — and board members debated acknowledging prior members versus only current officials.

District staff presented board members with three options for a dedication plaque for the new high‑school building and asked for guidance on which officials to include.
The options presented were: list board members and the superintendent who initiated the project (March 2022); list board members and the superintendent in office at the groundbreaking (February 2024); or list board members and the superintendent at the official opening (scheduled for next year). Staff said only one plaque would be installed and noted that county commissioners should also be given the opportunity to choose language because their membership has changed in recent years.
Board members discussed fairness to prior members who initiated the project and to those serving at completion. One board member urged recognizing previous members because they started the project; another suggested including both original and current members. Staff said architects could advise on plaque size and layout, and the administration will return with a draft and additional options once architects confirm. The item was informational; no final decision was recorded July 9.
