City schedules joint planning commission–council study session on general plan for June 10

City staff announced that the Salinas Planning Commission and the Salinas City Council will hold a joint special study session on the general plan update on Tuesday, June 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the rotunda. Lisa Brinton, Community Development Director, said the session is intended to bring commissioners and council members up to speed on the update and the materials prepared to date and that a public review draft will be released this summer.
Brinton said the session is a special meeting of the City Council and not a regularly scheduled council meeting. She described it as an opportunity for commissioners and council members to review the process and the content developed in preparation of the general plan.
Staff also previewed items on upcoming planning commission agendas: a final time extension request for a tentative map for a 37‑lot subdivision at 11 Hill Circle, and a protested notice of intent to approve a vehicle repair facility at 219 West Market Street scheduled for the June 18 meeting. Brinton relayed dates and logistics for commissioners and asked about attendance; commissioners confirmed availability for the June 10 study session and the June 18 meeting.
Ending: The city expects to release a public review draft of the general plan this summer. The joint study session on June 10 will present the draft materials to commissioners and council members; members of the public may attend the rotunda session to hear the presentation and materials as they are released.
