Norman Public Schools Foundation pledges $150,000 to keep school nurses; district highlights summer programs and free meals

An administrative staff member told the board that the hospital reduced some funding for school nurses and the foundation stepped in to “stand in the gap” for the 2025–26 school year. The staff member said the district will use the one-time contribution while pursuing plans to close the longer-term funding gap after next school year.
The administrator also outlined the district’s summer programs for elementary, middle and high school students and said free meals are available to all students ages 0–18 at several district sites during June, July and August. Staff said some summer programs still had openings and that registration for the 2025–26 school year is open.
The superintendent, Dr. Millarino, was out of the country and did not speak; the administrative staff member offered the report on his behalf. No formal action or vote accompanied the report; it was presented as the administrative staff report portion of the agenda.
Board members publicly thanked staff and the foundation for the contribution and for summer-program work. A board member noted that many district employees continue to work through the summer on programs and school preparation.
The district did not provide additional detail at the meeting about the foundation’s internal budget source for the donation or longer-term plans to replace the hospital funding beyond saying staff have ideas to close the gap after the 2025–26 school year.
