Commission sets public hearing to consider extending no-parking-from-corner at Walnut and Shirley avenues

At the June 12 meeting the commission accepted a councilor’s request to set a public hearing on modifying no-parking-from-corner zones at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Shirley Avenue.
The councilor requested expanding the no-parking-from-corner distance from 20 feet to 40 feet on both sides of Walnut Avenue adjacent to the intersection (using 103 Shirley Ave and the Costa Park area as reference points). The change is intended to give additional room for turning vehicles and reduce intersection backup where parked cars near the corner constrict turning movements.
Commissioners asked staff to prepare legal text for the hearing and to use Costa Park and 103 Shirley Ave as reference points in the ordinance wording. The motion to send the item to public hearing carried without recorded opposition.
No final change was adopted at the meeting; staff will schedule a hearing and provide precise mapping and signage recommendations to the commission.
