The Revere library director told the Ways and Means Subcommittee on June 10 that the library receives approximately $160,000 a year in federal-related support and that much of it may be uncertain due to recent federal funding changes.
“It's approximately 160,000 a year,” the library director said when asked by Councilor Argencio whether the library receives federal funding.
Asked whether that funding is in jeopardy, the director replied, “Yes. Okay. Potentially, 80 percentage of it is in jeopardy. Okay. With the current administration, there was a cut to the Institute of Museum and Library Services.” The director added that funding received from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) could be affected by that federal reduction and that the city likely will not know the final impact until the next budget cycle in approximately two months.
Councilors did not take formal action on the library budget during the hearing. The library director characterized the FY2026 operating budget as largely similar to the prior year and noted there was “not really much to report on my end.”
The committee did not produce written estimates beyond the director’s remarks; the $160,000 figure was given as an approximate annual amount by the director during her presentation.
