Board defers Older Adult Advisory Committee survey recommendation to Sept. 9 government committee

The Board of Commissioners voted to move a discussion of a proposed Older Adult Advisory Committee (OAAC) survey to the Sept. 9 government oversight meeting.
Commissioners and OAAC members said multiple surveys and differing question sets exist and that the committee wanted time to reconcile questions and review an elder-abuse survey being conducted by senior services before sending a survey countywide. Commissioner Zinner and Commissioner Perna urged a short postponement so the OAAC can present a consolidated recommendation.
OAAC member Tom Matthews and others described social isolation among older adults as a growing concern. Matthews recounted a conversation with a resident who said, "I have no one," and cited national attention to social-isolation research as context for the committee's work.
Perna said the OAAC had recently coalesced around clearer goals and recommended postponement so a single, committee-approved instrument can be finalized at the September meeting. The board voted to move the item to the Sept. 9 government committee 12 to 0.
