Macomb County officials reported that construction on the Central Intake and Assessment Center is proceeding on schedule and within budget.
Don, a regular project participant the board recognized at the meeting, told commissioners the project has more than 200 people working daily and described strong cooperation among the county executive's office, sheriff's office and the board.
Project updates from staff said the building is rising out of the ground, that the second floor construction was about to begin, and that demolition of the maximum-security wing (built in 1970) and original jail cells (built in 1954) is scheduled for mid-July. Officials said the center will house services for inmates and a range of mental-health and substance-use disorder services intended to protect public safety and provide treatment access.
The board received the update and unanimously approved receiving and filing the project materials 12 to 0.
