Board members used call-to-board time to highlight community events and recent funding news.
President Skamman reviewed Juneteenth background and invited the public to a flag-raising ceremony in the Village Hall courtyard and to a June 14 cookout on the Village Hall south lawn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the president also thanked DEI staff and volunteers who helped organize events. Trustee remarks included congratulations to Oak Park Youth Baseball & Softball for a successful season, which the board said involved more than 1,000 youth participants across divisions. The board also noted that state Sen. Donna Harmon secured $100,000 in the state budget to support the day nursery; the board described that allocation as community support for early childhood services.
Trustees and staff encouraged residents to attend Juneteenth events and other community activities announced during the meeting.
