Council approves lower administrative fees but higher reinspection costs in property-maintenance code update

Carmelia Zion, representing the department that enforces property maintenance, told council the changes are intended to encourage compliance by reducing some initial administrative fees while increasing penalties for repeated noncompliance. She said the prior $50 civil penalty will become a $25 administrative fee in some cases; a prior administrative fee structure that included a $250 administrative fee plus contractor cost for noncompliance was clarified; the reinspection fee for ongoing open violations will increase from $75 to $100.
