City presents draft Comprehensive Safety Action Plan tied to federal Safe Streets grant
Summary
A draft safety action plan funded under the U.S. DOT Safe Streets and Roads for All program identifies a high‑injury network responsible for most severe crashes and recommends a five‑year program of projects, policy changes and regional coordination.
The City Commission reviewed a draft Comprehensive Safety Action Plan developed under a U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All grant. Consultant Brad Davis of Kimley‑Horn said the plan focuses on preventing the most severe crashes and aligning local work with FDOT and the regional transportation planning organization.
Davis framed the effort as a ‘‘safe systems’’ approach aimed at preventing death and serious injury: "When we started this plan, last year, we started with kind of the simple notion that we wanna make it safer to cross the street in the city, and safer to cross the street and to travel for everyone," he said.
