Carbon County proclaims June 2025 as Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week

The Board of Commissioners of Carbon County adopted a proclamation recognizing June 2025 as Carbon County Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week and presenting the proclamation to staff of the county's Children and Youth Services.

The proclamation, read at the meeting, noted that child welfare workers investigate abuse, provide services to families, assess safety and work to allow children to remain safely in their homes or to return home as quickly as possible. It acknowledged that staff often enter difficult situations and face personal safety risks while carrying out investigations.

The proclamation text the board read said the county recognizes the efforts of Carbon County Children and Youth Services and commended "their hard work and dedication." The proclamation specifically recognized the office's staff and cited the role of caseworkers in averting injuries and deaths of children in the county.

Jill, identified at the meeting as the director of Carbon County Children and Youth Services and participating remotely, thanked the commissioners and described her staff: "I really appreciate the commissioners taking the time to acknowledge our staff, our 13 caseworkers, ranging from 20 of service to 4 months of service and anything in between. And I really do appreciate every day they show up with a smile on their face." Jill said she was at a conference "learning more about child welfare laws and regulations" and hoped to bring that knowledge back to her staff.

Commissioners and other attendees expressed thanks and praise for the work of child welfare staff, noting the difficulty and reward of the work and the personal risks involved when staff enter unsafe homes. The board then presented the proclamation to the department.
