Shelter director reports staffing vacancy, donations and rising adoptions; cameras and kennel doors still pending

Tom, the shelter director, reported staffing, donations and intake/adoption figures at the Carbon County Animal Shelter during the advisory commission meeting on June 3.
Tom said the shelter has one vacant part-time K-9 officer position; an application had been received and the shelter planned to interview the candidate. He reported donated food totals and supplies for two recent months: for April, food donations totaled $2,736 and supplies were listed at $20,091; for May, FreshPak donated $5,141 in food and supplies were listed at $2,658. Tom told the commission the shelter has 16 kennels.
Monthly intake and outcome figures Tom provided showed variations between months. For April the shelter recorded 22 dogs at the start of the month and 16 at month-end; adoptions were 7, owner surrenders 1, and 8 returned to owners. Total number in care at one time was 22; police calls were 7 with six after-hours calls. For May Tom said the shelter started the month with 16 dogs and ended with 15; adoptions were 9, owner surrenders 2, returns to owners 4, and total in care at one time was 18. Police calls rose to 11 with nine after-hours calls.
Tom also noted maintenance items: cameras have been surveyed and a vendor had examined possible installation locations but installation remained pending; ceiling repairs in the kennel area remained undone pending scheduling; the shelter ordered the last three kennel doors needed to complete a set and expected delivery. He reported the shelter vehicle was operating normally.
Commission members thanked local donors and noted media coverage of shelter improvements. The figures and operational updates were presented as part of the director's regular report; there was no formal action attached to the report at the meeting.
