"We just have a letter to see if we can get an outdoor play area, kennel area, that wouldn't be open to the public, but for the dogs," the chairman said.
Tom, the shelter director, identified possible locations on county property, saying, "It could actually go next to the memorial garden in that grass area," and described siting it where people walking nearby could observe the dogs. Commissioners and staff discussed limiting access to shelter staff and prospective adopters during supervised meet-and-greets to reduce liability. "As long as it's on county property and it's for the shelter dog...this would strictly be for, you know, our dogs and getting them ready for adoption," Tom said.
A motion to approve sending the proposal to the commissioners and to sign off on the letter was made and seconded on the floor; the motion passed on a voice vote.
