Carbon County proclaims June 9-13 Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners on June 4 adopted a proclamation recognizing June 9–13, 2025, as Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week and publicly thanked county Children and Youth staff for their work protecting children.
The proclamation, introduced and read during the meeting, said county child welfare professionals “investigate child abuse, provide services to families, assess safety and support as they transition into adulthood,” and noted their work often involves personal safety risks. Commissioner Arner moved the proclamation and it was seconded and approved by the board.
Why it matters: County children and youth staff respond to reports of abuse and neglect, work with families on safety plans and reunification, and operate under state child welfare law. The commissioners noted that those duties can involve hazardous home visits and emotional workloads, and they used the proclamation to recognize that service.
Jill, director of Carbon County Children and Youth Services, thanked the board in brief remarks and said she was attending a conference on child welfare laws and regulations. "I apologize I can't be there. I am, currently at a conference learning more about child welfare laws and regulations. So hopefully bringing that back to my staff," Jill said. She told commissioners the department’s staff includes 13 caseworkers with experience ranging from 20 years to four months and praised their commitment: "...they show up with a smile on their face. They go out, and they help children and families and put their best effort forward."
Sheriff's Office remarks at the meeting noted revenues and a check presentation related to training funds. The board and other speakers highlighted the difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions child welfare workers face when entering homes where there may be drugs or other hazards. "It's probably the worst job in Carbon County, but it's the most rewarding," Commissioner Notestein said.
The board adopted the proclamation by voice vote and a commissioner presented the signed document to Children and Youth representatives who were in the room or online. The proclamation states the board "hereby adopt this proclamation recognizing June 2025 as Carbon County Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week" and recognizes the staff "for their efforts and dedication in protecting the children of Carbon County."
