Indio council accepts $140,034 in ALEA funds for public-safety expenditures

The City of Indio City Council voted 5–0 on June 4 to accept $140,034 in fiscal year 2024–25 Enhancing Law Enforcement Activities (ELEA) subaccount funds and to approve the enclosed expenditure plan.
Erica Martinez, division chief of support services for the Indio Police Department, explained the program and the proposed uses. Martinez said the funds are disbursed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and are intended to support frontline police services; the city typically must spend these funds within two fiscal years.
Martinez said the city’s three‑year average allocation for the program is roughly $200,000, but the current allocation is $140,034. The proposed plan the council approved directs the funds to support public‑safety equipment, supplies, training and personnel costs.
Votes The motion to accept the allocation and expenditure plan was made by Council member Ortiz and seconded by Council member Raymond Furman; it passed unanimously, 5–0.
Ending Chief Tully and police staff will administer the allocation according to the approved expenditure plan and provide standard reporting on the use of funds.
