Margate Board of Adjustment elects officers, adopts 2025 meeting calendar

The Margate Board of Adjustment elected Russell Anderson as chair, appointed Barbara Farias as vice chair and Kandi Harris as secretary, and unanimously approved its 2025 meeting calendar during its June 3 meeting.

Board leadership elections and the calendar were routine items on the agenda. The motion to appoint Anderson as chair was moved by Barbara Farias and seconded by Kandi Harris; the board voted unanimously in favor. A subsequent motion to appoint Farias as vice chair carried unanimously. The board also moved, seconded and unanimously approved the calendar of meetings for the 2025 term.

City Attorney David Tulsa opened the meeting and explained the process for electing officers. Members introduced themselves before the elections; board members noted their Margate residency and relevant experience. Andrew Penny, a city staff member, presented the draft 2025 calendar and told members it was a reference that loosely follows the terms of appointment and reaches into 2026 where asterisks denote potential scheduling conflicts.

Penny said the calendar is not strictly fixed and the city may call special meetings if needed. Another speaker noted that the calendar is established by city ordinance; Penny and staff said some dates can change — for example, the board typically meets the first Tuesday of each month but the August meeting is scheduled for a later week to accommodate National Night Out. City staff also clarified that the board secretary is a board office but the city prepares the minutes.

All formal actions at the meeting were unanimous and procedural. After the votes and a period for general questions, a motion to adjourn passed unanimously and the meeting closed.
