Brawley Chamber schedules June workshops, reports recent break-ins at office

Ramiro Urrias, chief executive director of the Brawley Chamber of Commerce, updated the council on planned business workshops and recent security incidents at the chamber office.
Urrias outlined two workshops in June aimed at local businesses: a Cal/OSHA heat and workplace safety session on June 12 with English and Spanish sessions that will provide OSHA certification, and a harassment and fair employment workshop on June 18. He said the sessions are tailored for business owners, HR staff and employees; chamber members pay $15 and the chamber will offer the training free to Brawley city staff who work outdoors.
Urrias also reported three break-ins at the chamber’s storage area over the previous month and thanked the police for prompt responses and cleanup of encampments in the alley behind the office.
Council members asked whether the chamber has historically sponsored a Fourth of July event; Urrias said the chamber has offered logistical support in the past but not hosted a fireworks show and that the chamber could assist if the city wanted a larger community event next year.
Urrias said he will return to the council periodically to coordinate chamber-city initiatives and to foster communication between local government and businesses.
