Brawley Elks Lodge honored for launching Antlers youth program

The Brawley City Council presented a proclamation recognizing the Brawley Elks Lodge No. 1420 for establishing a junior Antlers youth program that organizers said will focus on service, patriotism and leadership.
Ruben Via, exalted ruler and Antlers adviser, told the council the program is open to young people ages 12 to 20 and that 27 members had been signed up at the time of the inaugural initiation. He described the Antlers as a revival of a program with historical roots and said the lodge intends to teach civic values, support fundraisers and mentor participants toward future community service.
Council members praised the Elks for scholarships and youth programming. The proclamation noted the lodge’s century-long presence in the city and listed scholarships, youth awards and recent community investments, including fundraising for park improvements.
The council ratified the ceremonial proclamation and thanked lodge leaders and volunteers for their work with youth.
